Performance

The 2020 Explorer XLT harnesses up to 300 horsepower from a 2.3 L engine block, which displays the celebrated EcoBoost badge. When revolving faster than 3,500 RPM, this turbocharged I-4 powertrain generates 310 pound-feet of torque.

Also engineered based on the exclusive EcoBoost mechanical technology, the ST's 3.0 L engine spits out 400 hp. This twin-turbo powertrain delivers 415 lb-ft of peak torque at tachometer readings above 3,500 RPM.

Both turbo propulsion systems work in tandem with the SelectShift gearbox, which gives the driver access to 10 fixed speeds. Both Explorer SUVs may be equipped with the Intelligent 4WD, which is ready to roll in hazardous conditions. The Terrain Management System increases your confidence in navigating off-road trails or rough pavement from sand and ice to mud and rocks; this patented technology optimizes traction on rugged surfaces. The Hill Descent Control helps you make a smooth transition from steep slopes to flat roads. Equipped with the Roll Stability Control, both Ford SUVs are at low risk of flipping over on hills.

Appearance

The trademark ActiveX material makes a debut in the 2020 Explorer XLT. This all-new upholstery is more comfortable and durable than conventional cloth or fabric. Leather with micro-perforations is installed in the ST edition. Both Ford SUVs have second-row captain's chairs, which are easily adjusted by the Power-Assist Fold function. These Explorer models also have a tri-zone HVAC system that's easily managed on a touch screen. Once you're ready to select the exterior color scheme, your options include Rich Copper, Rapid Red, and Silver Spruce. The ST model is also equipped with quad exhaust tips that are protected by a chrome application.

Features

The multimedia unit in the 2020 Explorer XLT takes full advantage of the SYNC 3 AppLink suite. With direct access to the Ford+Alexa interface, you'll be more productive behind the steering wheel. In addition to interacting with Amazon Alexa, you can activate Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Are you looking for more connection options? Sync your smartphone with the FordPass Connect 4G LTE WiFi. Need real-time updates on traffic conditions? Tune into the Waze app in the SYNC 3 platform. In the mood for some good music? Listen to SiriusXM All Access on the Explorer ST's Bang & Olufsen audio system, which comes with a dozen speakers that release up to 980 acoustic watts. This high-end Ford SUV also boasts the Active Park Assist 2.0, which helps you with steering and braking in narrow spaces. Other active safety highlights in this three-row vehicle include the Evasive Steering Assist and Lane-Keeping System.
