Ford Engine Not Working

Why Is My Car Not Starting?

A number of problems can prevent your vehicle from starting. You might be able to pinpoint the cause, such as if you know that your car has been low on fuel recently or you accidentally left the lights on overnight, which can drain the battery. You may also have other problems with the car's internal components that can prevent the vehicle from starting. Those issues will need the attention of an expert mechanic to get your car back on the road.

Dead Battery

A battery that runs out of juice is one of the most frequent causes for a car to suddenly not start. The battery in most cars has a lifespan of 3-5 years. However, some factors can impact the battery's longevity and reduce its lifespan by even a few years or more. The battery may be negatively affected by various factors, including leaving the external or cabin lights on for an extended period or driving your car in hot or cold weather.

Bad Starter

The starter on most vehicles is electric-powered, which makes it easy to start the car. However, if the starter wears out, it won't be able to send a signal to the engine to start cranking. Although you won't be able to start your vehicle with a faulty starter, the component is small and easy for a mechanic to replace.

Broken Ignition

The ignition is another component that can break and need a mechanic's hands to fix. The ignition contains coils that help deliver power from the battery to the motor. The ignition can become damaged from moisture exposure, which prevents the electric currents from reaching the engine and ultimately starting the car. A mechanic can check for current in the coils using a multimeter. If there's no power going through, the ignition will need replacement.

Clogged Fuel Lines

Usually, the fuel lines in your car deliver clean air and oxygen to the car's engine to help it run smoothly. They can perform this essential task with a clean engine fuel filter designed to remove contaminants from the fuel. If the fuel filter gets clogged with dirt, dust, and other environmental debris, the car's performance will suffer. Then, eventually, it will fail to start altogether.

Out of Gas

A simple but common explanation for your car not starting is simply that it's out of fuel. You will need to get roadside assistance for a refill so that you can reach the nearest gas station. The car may also indicate that it's out of fuel if the gas gauge is broken.
